A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

He rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
